94.9 WDKB and First National Bank presented this week’s #HometownHero award to:

Amanda Baum

Thanks to Cate Cardella for nominating Amanda!

Amanda recently designed shirts with the message ‘Add Love/Subtract Hate.’ Not only did she want to spread a positive message, she wanted to be able to DO something positive for the community. So, she decided to sell the shirts in benefit of New Hope’s Back to School Bash school supply drive! It was a hit! Thanks to lots of shares on social media, she ended up selling shirts across 29 states and raised $750 for school supplies. After the school drive, she decided to continue selling shirts, this time to benefit Safe Passage.

Beyond her charitable shirts, Amanda already does so much to impact the community. She has been teaching for over 2 decades! Amanda taught at Huntley Middle School and is now at Clinton Rosette Middle School. She teaches 7th grade math and is also one of 3 WEB coordinators, which teaches and supports 8th grade leaders as they mentor incoming 6th graders.

You’re awesome, Amanda! Thanks for designing such great shirts for equally great causes and for devoting so much of your life towards enriching the lives of kids. Now more than ever, teachers have been asked to go above and beyond, in and out of the classroom. This community is grateful to have amazing people like you that are willing to rise to the challenge!

You can still buy these shirts! Check out the different styles here: https://varcityapparel.itemorder.com/sale
