DeKalb’s Paint-A-Plug program is accepting applications for this years fire hydrant painting.

I’m sure you’ve seen the painted fire hydrants around town. Maybe the pharaoh across from the Egyptian Theatre, or the ear of corn, a dairy cow… the artwork is so fun to see!

DeKalb’s Citizens’ Community Enhancement Commission is ready for you to adopt a fire hydrant this year and turn it into artwork!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • There is no specific theme for the fire hydrants
  • There is no fee to participate in the program
  • Approved artists are responsible for providing their own materials
  • OC Creative will donate $50 to each of this year’s participants to defray some of the costs of materials
  • You don’t have to be a DeKalb resident to participate. You may also be an NIU student or alumni, DeKalb School District student or faculty, employee of DeKalb businesses or an area artist
  • If approved, you have until November 1, 2021 to paint your hydrant
