Give the Gift of Music: KSO Instrument Donation Project

Do you have a gently used instrument gathering dust in your closet? Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces the KSO Instrument Donation Project (KID Project) to help provide local students with financial constraints a chance to discover their passion for music.

The KID Project collects unwanted band and orchestra instruments from the community. These instruments will be inspected, cleaned and repaired, then donated to DeKalb County school music departments to loan to students who lack the financial means to rent or buy their own instrument. All types of band and orchestra instruments may be donated (Pianos and organs cannot be accepted). Monetary donations for repairs will also be accepted.

The KSO is hosting a Drive-Thru Community Drop-Off Day on Saturday, April 6 from 10am to 1pm at the Ellwood House at 420 Linden Place in DeKalb. Drive up the circle drive behind the Ellwood House and volunteers will greet you at your car to accept your instrument donation.

You may also bring an instrument to donate at the following upcoming KSO concerts. KSO members will be happy to accept your instrument donation at the ticket table before the concert begins.

  • The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Spring Pops Concert: A Tribute to John Williams – Saturday, March 23, 7:30 pm, NIU Music Building
  • The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Spring Concert: A Taste of Italy – Saturday, May 4, 7:30 pm,  NIU Music Building

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Rockford Area Arts Council which receives support from the City of Rockford, the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and its members. It is also partially supported by the 100+ Women Who Care in DeKalb/Sycamore Greatest Impact Award.
