Get ready to savor the flavors, soak in the sounds and celebrate the spirit of  Cinco de Mayo in downtown DeKalb! Scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024,  from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, this festive extravaganza promises an unforgettable experience  for the whole family. Join us in Downtown DeKalb, along Lincoln Hwy between 2nd and 4th  Street, for a day filled with live music, mouthwatering cuisine, exciting kids’ activities, and  refreshing drinks from local bars and restaurants. 

Cinco de Mayo is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a celebration of Mexican  culture, heritage, and resilience. DeKalb’s Cinco de Mayo event embodies the spirit of this  festive occasion, offering a dynamic lineup of activities and attractions: 

Wagon Parade: Start the event at noon with a vibrant wagon parade! Colorful wagons  creatively adorned and participants dressed in traditional Mexican attire create a festive  procession through the streets, honoring Mexican culture and history. 

Live Music Stage: Groove to the rhythm of live music performances featuring talented  artists and bands, delivering an eclectic mix of Mexican melodies, Latin beats, and crowd pleasing tunes. 

Food Trucks & Local Establishments: Treat your taste buds to a culinary fiesta with an array  of delectable offerings from local food trucks and downtown restaurants and bars, serving 

up a variety of cuisines. Along the businesses located in downtown, the food trucks will  Including local favorites Burritoville, Chow Haul Smokehouse, Big D’s Hot Dogs, Sweet  Butts Cotton Candy, and Main Squeeze Lemonade.  

Family-Friendly Activities: Engage in fun-filled activities for the whole family, including  bounce houses, face painting, piñatas, and interactive games. You can also check out  downtown windows decorated by DeKalb School District students in the theme of Mexican  Artistry.  

Lowrider Car Show: Gearheads and enthusiasts won’t want to miss the lowrider car show,  featuring a stunning display of customized vehicles celebrating Mexican-American car  culture. 

Drinks to Go: Quench your thirst with refreshing beverages from local bars and restaurants,  offering specialty cocktails, margaritas, Mexican beers, and non-alcoholic options to enjoy  on-the-go as you soak up the festive atmosphere. Attendees over the age of 21 can enjoy  drinks-to-go within the event area.
