Transformation Through Rhythm Concert

February 24, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Come and experience the power of music to promote healing, unity and community. The 8th Annual Transformation Through Rhythm Concert will be held at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb on February 24th at 2:00 pm. This event showcases multiple percussion ensembles and involves more than 60 performers.

Produced by Northwestern Medicine Hospice DeKalb, 100% of the proceeds will benefit their sister hospice in Knysna, South Africa. Since 2004, Northwestern Medicine Hospice has been a part of Global Partners in Care, a national organization which links U.S. hospices with Sub-Saharan African hospices, to assist with funds, skills and knowledge.

“Knysna hospice serves a very impoverished population which has been hit heavily by the AIDS epidemic. In the past years our donations have been utilized to buy food for their hospice patients and families,” said Jennifer Conley, a music therapist and licensed professional counselor at Northwestern Medicine Hospice DeKalb.

The concert will open with a welcome letter and brief video from Knysna, South Africa, as well as comments from a representative from Global Partners in Care.

“Transformation Through Rhythm is much more than a concert. It is our commitment to take care of one another, using our words, deeds and resources, every day, every year,”  said Greg Beyer, professor and head of Percussion Studies at Northern Illinois University.

Sponsorship of the event is by Northwestern Medicine Hospice DeKalb, Northern Illinois University School of Music, DeKalb School District 428, Harambee Percussion Ensemble, WNIU/WNIJ and Global Partners in Care.
