Sycamore Music Boosters Mattress Fundraiser

October 24, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sweet(er) dreams are in your future if you shop for new bedding at the Sycamore Music Boosters 4th annual mattress fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The event, which benefits Sycamore music students and programs, is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in Gym A-1 of the Sycamore Park District Community Center. The center is at 480 S. Airport Rd. in Sycamore.

Gym A-1 will be transformed into a 20+ bed showroom filled with all sizes and styles of beds, pillows, mattress toppers, frames, and other accessories. All products are brand new and carry full factory warrantees. Name brands like Simmons Beautyrest, Therapeutic, Wellsville, and Brighton are available for up to 50% off retail prices! Purchases can be made via cash, check or credit card. Delivery and financing are available.

Sycamore CUSD 427 faculty, staff and their families are eligible for a special discount: either a free set of sheets, or 10% off any purchase of $299 or more.

And every purchase benefits the Sycamore Music Boosters, which means every purchase directly benefits music students and programs in Sycamore.

Cara Jovanovich, Sycamore Music Boosters president, said she is grateful that the Boosters, the Sycamore Park District, and Custom Fundraising Solutions worked together to create the event.

“We’re really excited about this fundraiser because we know from past experience that shoppers get top quality merchandise at great prices that also benefit a great cause,” Jovanovich said. “But like so many organizations, most of our fundraising activities have been canceled or severely curtailed because of COVID-19. It’s great that we’ll be able to have this fun event carefully and safely.”

Special attention to COVID heath concerns

Tim Calleja, an associate with Custom Fundraising Solutions, said, “We are extremely sensitive to health concerns and public safety guidelines. We realize people are doing their best to be safe, and we have developed special requirements in accordance with state regulations to keep the mattress fundraiser as safe as possible.” Calleja and other CFS staff will be on hand at the event.

Those requirements are:

▪ The sale will have 50 or fewer people in attendance at any one time. Once the maximum of 50 people has been reached, new customers will be asked to wait until they can safely enter
▪ Every customer will be asked to wear a mask while in attendance. Masks are also required for any children over age 3.
▪ All families are asked to be in groups of five or less.
▪ Social distancing will be strictly adhered to. There must be 6 feet between all parties. All customers are asked to wait until the previous party has left a bed before they try it out.
▪ Disposable, COVID-safe, one-time-use sheets will be given to all customers who try a mattress or pillow.

Replacing bedding

There are several reasons to replace your mattress, according to health and wellness website healthline.com. Over time, a mattress can lose its shape and begin to sag, creating dips and lumps. An uncomfortable mattress can interfere with your ability to get a good night’s sleep.

Dust mites and other allergens also accumulate in mattresses, which can cause or worsen symptoms in people with allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions. Some studies have found that some of the highest concentrations of dust mites in a home are in mattresses.

Regardless of the cause, sleep deprivation is serious. In addition to poor concentration during dangerous tasks like driving, not enough sleep has been linked to heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes.

Joe Matejka, owner and founder of the “mattress fundraiser,” said the concept behind the event is “unusual but one that absolutely works. One in ten people buy a new mattress every single year. We offer the community a quality product they need, at a great price and the best part is that every sale benefits the school.”
