Senior Book Club: The Great Displacement

April 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Meet with us the second Tuesday of every month for a book club just for seniors. We will be discussing The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration by Jake Bittle. The first Earth Day began on April 22, 1970 and has been observed every year since then.  As we celebrate Earth on April 22 this year, consider how climate change will radically transform our lives and geography, as author Jake Bittle posits in The Great Displacement. As global warming gets worse over the coming decades, millions of people will scatter around the world fleeing famine and rising seas.  The consequences of climate change are already visible right here in the United States.  Insurance and mortgage markets are already shifting to reflect mounting climate risk, pricing people out of risky areas.  As is shown in this critically acclaimed book, from fire-scorched California to the soaked watersheds of North Carolina, people are on the move. Books will be available in the Adult Services Department.  Some large print copies may be attainable. Also available in Libby in eBook form. This book club is intended for adults.  No registration is required. This program is part of the America 250 initiative; celebrating our nation throughout the year. For additional information, please contact Kathy at kathyh@dkpl.org or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 2110.
