Senior Book Club: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Meet with us the second Tuesday of every month for a book club just for seniors. We will be discussing Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Huck Finn, Mark Twain’s tour de force, written in the harsh vernacular of the day, tells us that we must not shrink from the ugly face of slavery and racism. This profound read is carried out in detail by one of our big storytellers who had the uncanny intuition to demonstrate humankind’s worst flaws through a unique combination of humor and seriousness.  Witness Huck Finn’s decision to endure the wrath of God by aiding the escape of a runaway slave, though everything in his society tells him how wicked and wrong that is.  In a world where morality and wickedness are reversed, appreciate Huck’s bravery to choose the right path.  Ernest Hemingway said American fiction begins and with Huck Finn.  Read or re-read this American classic and draw your own conclusions. Books will be available in the Adult Services Department.  Some large print copies may be attainable. Also available in Libby and Hoopla in both audio and eBook form. This book club is intended for adults.  No registration is required. This program is part of the America 250 initiative; celebrating our nation throughout the year.
