Celebrating 54 years on the beautiful courthouse lawn in historic Sycamore, Illinois, the Kishwaukee Valley Art League will hold its annual Northern Illinois Art Show on May 31 & June 1. This two day juried show features 60 to 70 artisans exhibiting fine arts and crafts in a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil painting, pencil sketching, fabric art, woodworking, pastels, photography, ceramics, garden art, jewelry, fused glass and other three-dimensional media. KVAL member artists also offer a group exhibit with all media. The Art of Giving raffle is a popular part of the show. Customers can win original pieces of artwork donated by KVAL members. Admission to the show is free to the public. Musical entertainment adds to the show’s relaxing atmosphere and food is provided by the local Boy Scout Troop 33.

They are hosting a food drive on Tuesday from 4-6pm at their location. They are helping collect Thanksgiving meals for the Salvation Army. In December, they will also have Toys for Tots Boxes, host two Angel Trees for kids and older adults, and have some fun events to highlight these. The first ever Rockford Hero Rumble raised $14,000 to support the Carrie Lynn Children’s Center, a nonprofit that helps children recovering from serious abuse.
The rumble took place Nov. 1 at Hard Rock Casino Rockford with Team Fire earning a narrow win. It will be back next year.

Helen “Sis Waddell” Wyatt, a former Rockford Peaches player who won a title with the team, has died at age 95.
Wyatt was a gifted athlete who spent years coaching later in life. She coached well into her 80s.
