Kishwaukee United Way 2-1-1 Celebration

February 11, 2021

The Kishwaukee United Way is reminding DeKalb County residents of the 2-1-1 service, which was not often used during 2020. 2-1-1 is a non-emergency number for people to call 24 hours a day to speak to a live operator and get confidential help on many issues, including health care, food assistance, disaster assistance, housing and utility payments, social services and more. Calling 2-1-1 is free and accessible to all residents and is available every day of the year.

Per Kishwaukee United Way Press Release:

All over Illinois, there are millions of people struggling to support their basic needs and more importantly, struggling to find the necessary resources in order to live a healthy lifestyle. 2-1-1 continues to be an under-utilized source of connection for those individuals and families.

2-1-1 is an easy, non-emergency number that makes it possible for individuals to get connected with the right resources any day of the week, 24 hours a day. It is a one stop shop where callers can be connected to vital resources. Every caller can get live, confidential assistance regarding multiple topics such as health care, food assistance, disaster assistance, housing and utility payments, employment, veteran and family services and more. 2-1-1 also includes physical and mental health resources, senior services and services for those with disabilities. 2-1-1 specialists always direct callers to the most local resource(s). This is why is it important to promote 211 Day. February 11th (2/11) is meant to raise awareness for the beneficial services provided by 2-1-1 in the DeKalb area as well as across the United States.

The specialists at 2-1-1 are prepared with the resources necessary to help out with any and every situation. 90.6%, or 285 million individuals across the United States have access to 2-1-1. Of the 50 states within the United States, 39 of them are 100% covered by 2-1-1.

Kishwaukee United Way, just like 2-1-1, has made a commitment to ensure everyone in the community has access to the necessary resources. In DeKalb County, this was over 1000 calls in 2020.

Calling 2-1-1 is completely free and accessible to anyone and everyone in need of local resources 24/7, 365 days a year. If you would like to request more information, have any questions or would like to know how to get involved call Kishwaukee United Way at 815-756-7522.
