DeKalb’s Shananigans Big Band ‘Artist in Residence’ program will take place on Fri Nov 22 at Clinton Rosette Middle School. Parents and public invited.

Titled, ‘America’s Gift to the World: Jazz and Dance’, the program will draw upon America’s historical, musical, dance, and society’s interaction with jazz and dance. The lively format is designed to engage students with ballroom dance and enjoy big band’s significant American and World cultural contributions.

Sponsored by the Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation, the program reflects multiple arts in action and demonstrates how people interact with ‘live’ music in a classic setting.

‘The Shananigans will share some selections from their most recent ‘live recording’, ‘It’s Saturday Night! Let’s Dance’. Dan Nichols, NIU Music Studio, provided engineering. John and Mary Puskar, Naperville, IL, will demonstrate ‘dance form’ and ‘how’ to dance swing, waltz, foxtrot, and latin.

The program will ‘take stage’ at 7:45 8:30 and 9:20 am. ‘live’ in the gymnasium.
