Sophomore cornerback Eric Rogers (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week for his play in NIU’s 34-27 win over Eastern Illinois last Thursday night.

This is Rogers’ first career conference weekly honor. Rogers became the first Huskie to record two interceptions in a game since 2018 with a pair of picks in the Huskies’ win over the Panthers. His first interception came at the EIU 35-yard line and set up a Huskie TD two plays later. His second pick came on the Panthers’ next drive with an interception at the NIU two-yard line to stop the Panthers.

Rogers, who missed the last nine games of last season due to injury, is the first Huskie with two INTs in a game since Jalen McKie versus Akron on 11-1-18. He also logged in a tackle for loss on the night.

The Huskies go on the road for the first time this season on Saturday, Sept. 10 to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Game time is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN+. NIU returns home September 17 to face Vanderbilt at 2:30 p.m. For tickets, log on to NIUHuskies.com or call the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at (815) 753-PACK (7225).
