Starting at 4pm on Thursday, October 12th, you can head downtown DeKalb to celebrate the NIU Huskies. There will be food, music, a kids zone, a classic car show, the March Of the Huskies, a pep rally, a statue unveiling, and Rockin' Moxie will close out the night with live music.

The party continues at Jonamac Orchard on Friday, October 13th for the Bold Spirits Huskie Hour. This will be an awesome opportunity for the community to come out and celebrate and cheer on our NIU Huskies and learn more about NIU.

Jessica from CASA DeKalb County was our Guest DJ Today! We talked about a lot of exciting things coming up for CASA DeKalb County including:

  • January info session is Thursday, Jan. 11 from 5-6 pm via Zoom. Register online at casadekalb.org/volunteer-info
  • Winter Advocate Training is Thursdays, Jan. 25-Feb. 29 from 5-8 pm at the CASA Office
  • Community members from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply-you learn what you need to know through training!
  • Volunteering takes about 10 hours a month
  • Volunteers visit the child regularly, speak with people involved in the child's life to gather information, write court reports and attend court. Your Advocate Supervisor works with you every step of the way.
  • Having a CASA Advocate means a child is more likely to achieve permanency and half as likely to recenter foster care; children with a CASA Advocate perform better school and report higher levels of hope.
  • The need is great-over 40 children in DeKalb County need a CASA volunteer
