Eight Earn Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Honors
Eight members of the Northern Illinois University women’s track and field team earned Academic All-MAC honors for the outdoor season, as announced by the Mid-American Conference office on Friday (June 27).
Joy Jackson (North Aurora, Ill./Benet Academy) and Emma Vorpagel (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) claimed Academic All-MAC honors for the third consecutive outdoor season. Jackson is a sociology major with a 4.0 grade point average while Vorpagel holds a 3.926 GPA in finance.
A quartet of Huskies, Carly Leonard (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Indiana University HS), Emily Rublein (Madison, Wis./Madison West), Talayssia Sanders (Waco, Texas/Waco Connally) and Olivia Southby (New South Wales, Australia/Therry Catholic), earned the honor for the second straight outdoor season. Leonard is a sport and exercise psychology major with a 3.85 grade point average, Rublein has a 3.816 GPA in art and design education, Sanders has a 3.389 GPA in health sciences while Southby is a sport management major with a 3.603 grade point average.
Two Huskies, Giorgia Fino (Francavila Fontana, Italy/Istituto Tecnko Commerciale Giovanni Calo) and Samira Rosenfeld (Schaumburg, Ill./Schuamburg), collected their first outdoor Academic All-MAC awards. Fino, a world language and cultures major, has a 4.0 grade point average while Rosenfeld holds a 3.408 GPA in psychology.
The Academic All-MAC distinction honors student-athletes who demonstrate outstanding dedication to both their academic and athletic pursuits. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and participate in at least 50% of their team’s competitions during the season.
