Durosinmi, Ibarguen Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

Oluwasegun Durosinmi (Lagos, Nigeria/St. Bonaventure) and Harvin Ibarguen (Cali, Colombia/Seward County CC) were both named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Durosinmi, a general emphasis major with a 3.78 GPA, appeared in 26 games during the 2023-24 season, averaging 1.5 points and 2.2 rebounds while playing 8.5 minutes per game. The Lagos, Nigeria, native shot 56.5 percent from the field and netted a career-high 12 points in a Feb. 27 victory at Toledo, going a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor against the Rockets. Durosinmi led the Huskies in blocked shots three times this past season and 16 times in his NIU career.

Ibarguen has a 3.222 GPA and is a general emphasis major, the Cali, Colombia native played in 27 games this past season, making six starts, while scoring 3.5 points and grabbing 4.9 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game. Ibarguen posted his first career double-double with a season-high 12 points and 11 rebounds in a victory at Buffalo (March 8). Ibarguen led the Huskies in rebounding eight times this past season and ranked 14th in conference play, averaging 5.5 rebounds per contest.

This marks the first time NIU has had two Academic All-MAC honorees since the 1999-2000 season, when T.J. Lux and Mike Brown both garnered the recognition.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year transfers and true freshmen are not eligible.
