Downtown Infrastructure Projects Planned

A portion of South Second Street will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 23, for a sanitary  sewer project and a series of downtown railroad crossing closures will begin. 

South Second Street will be closed from East Lincoln Highway to around the rear wall of  City Hall for approximately two days beginning Monday, Sept. 23. This will allow for a  sanitary sewer improvement project being completed by the Kishwaukee Water  Reclamation District and the City. City Hall will remain accessible from both the front and  rear doors during the work. 

Also beginning Monday, Sept. 23, the Union Pacific Railroad will begin a series a railroad  crossing closures to perform repair work. No more than two crossings will be closed at  one time. The following is the schedule of the crossing closures. 

Sixth Street — Monday, Sept. 23, 7 a.m. to Wednesday, Sept. 25, 7 a.m. 

Third Street – Tuesday, Sept. 24, 7 a.m. to Thursday, Sept. 26, 7 a.m. 

Second Street – Wednesday, Sept. 25, 7 a.m. to Friday, Sept. 27, 7 a.m. 

First Street – Monday, Sept. 30, 7 a.m. to Wednesday, Oct. 2, 7 a.m. 

The schedule of the crossing closures is set by the UP Railroad. The City thanks the  community for its patience as these important projects are completed.
