DeKalb Fire Station #4 Groundbreaking Ceremony

The public is invited to celebrate the DeKalb Fire Station #4 Groundbreaking at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May  24, 2024, at the future construction site located at 1130 S. Malta Road.  

On July 24, 2023, the DeKalb City Council unanimously supported a five-year Fire Department plan which  included the construction of a new fire station to expand the City’s four-minute response coverage to the  southwest quadrant of DeKalb. 

On August 28, 2023, the Council authorized an architectural agreement with Studio 222 Architects of  Chicago to prepare construction plans and a project manual for a three-bay 7,780 square foot fire station.  

On September 11, 2023, the Council approved a general obligation bond to fund the construction of  Station #4. 

On February 5, 2024, a public hearing was held by the DeKalb Planning and Zoning Commission for the  petition by the City of DeKalb for an amendment to Ordinance 06-59 by amending the Preliminary Plan  and Section 2.8 of the Ordinance to allow an additional full access onto S. Malta Road and approval for  a Final Plan for the subject site at 1130 S Malta Road to accommodate the new fire station.  

On, February 12, 2024, the Council amended the annexation agreement for the Glidden Crossing  Subdivision to allow Fire Department access to and from S. Malta Road for emergency vehicles. The  Construction plans were issued for public bidding on March 18, 2024, and the bids were opened on April  23, 2024, with Irving Construction submitting the lowest responsible total bid.  

On May 13, 2024, the Council authorized a final contract with Irving Construction. 

This is an important milestone for the City of DeKalb, and we are excited to share this moment with the  community.
