Northern Illinois University head volleyball coach Sondra D’Amore announced the addition of Ellie Smith to the 2025 Huskies volleyball team as announced on April 30.

Smith comes to the Huskies volleyball team from Vero Beach, Florida and was a member of the Vero Beach High School team that made an Elite Eight appearance in the state tournament alongside a 7A District Championship in 2024.

Smith has amassed over 2,000 assists in her high school career and leads the Vero Beach program in that category. Additionally, Smith has recorded 400 digs throughout her career. Smith was the 2024 TCpalm Player of the Year, 2023 Scripps Treasure Coast Sports Top Setters to Watch list, 2023 AVCA Phenom and 2023 Scripps All-Area First Team.

Smith marks the eighth signee for the Huskies, joining Naomi Dowd, Eva Finnessy, Autumn Flynn, Savannah Gogel, Izzy Junior, Kiki Shields, and Delaney Steers.
