City, Multiple Agencies Assisting Fire Victims
The City of DeKalb and Family Service Agency are coordinating with multiple agencies to assist residents displaced by a fire at a multi-tenant building on Tuesday, June 17.
The DeKalb Fire Department responded to the fire at 908 Greenbrier Rd. at 5:42 a.m. The incident displaced 16 people. One person was treated for smoke inhalation.
Assistance began at the fire scene. The Voluntary Action Center provided transportation for the residents to the Red Roof Inn in DeKalb, where the Family Service Agency secured accommodations. The agency is seeking emergency grant funding to provide the residents with an extended stay at the hotel. The American Red Cross and DeKalb Township have also provided aid through meals and gift cards.
The DeKalb Fire Department and Building Division will work closely with the building owner on repairs so the residents can return to their home as soon as possible.
While donations of clothing and household items are not needed, monetary and gift card donations can be made through the Family Service Agency.
The City and Family Service Agency would like our partner agencies for their rapid response and valuable services provided to these community members.
