2019 HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES

September 21 – October 31 – Johnsons Pumpkins and Corn Maze in Sycamore open! Pumpkin Stand open daily from 10a – 6p. Corn Maze open Fri/Sat/Sun

October 1 – The Egyptian Theatre kicks off their Halloween Horror Film series with a showing of Psycho at 7pm. Tickets are $8; Students and Seniors are $6

October 3 – Adult Horror Movie Night at the DeKalb Library. They will show Dawn of the Dead starting at 5pm

October 5 – Opening of Haunted Corn Maze at Jonamac Orchard. This also marks the 5th annual Food Truck Weekend!  Pony Rides will be going on all weekend near the Animal Barn, along with many other fun family activities.  Enjoy a pick your own experience with Apple Picking in our Orchard or get pumpkins from the pumpkin patch!

October 8 – Ma showing at the DeKalb Library. Enjoy the 2019 Horror/Thriller starring Octavia Spencer for free starting at 6:30pm

October 8 – The Egyptian Theatre continues their Halloween Horror Film series with a showing of Poltergeist at 7pm. Tickets are $8; Students and Seniors

October 12 – Trunk or Treat at DeKalb Sycamore Chevy Buick GMC. Enjoy trick or treating from 2 – 5pm and a costume contest from 3:30 – 4pm. Winner will be announced at 4:30

October 12 & 13 – Spooktacular Horse Expo and Fun Show is a two day event of mini, pony, and horse fun classes, horse exhibtions, tack sales, flea market, craft fair, and fun for the entire family! Saturday October 12th is the mini/pony fun show and Sunday October 13th is the open horse fun show. Both days start at 10am with demonstrations starting at 1:30pm on Saturday and 1:00pm on Sunday!

October 12 – Fur Ball Fest at The Warehouse on Park in Genoa. Enjoy a full day of free pet themed events like dog obedience presentations, pet story-time, disco dog demos, funny cat videos, and more!

October 13 – Doggie Halloween Costume Contest at The Warehouse on Park in Genoa. Enter your best buddy in the Doggie Halloween costume contest! Prizes will be awarded for 1st 2nd & 3rd place. There will be a parade afterwards!   Entrance to the event is free; contest fee is $5 per dog. Professional photographer, Katherine McLaughlin will be available for photos until 2pm.

October 14 – DeKalb Park District showing Hotel Transylvania 3 at the Sports and Rec Center starting at 2pm

October 14 – Full Moon Hike at Prairie Park in DeKalb starting at 8pm. Guided by the moonlight, explore the nighttime woods and learn about nocturnal critters and enjoy other fun activities during this free event.

October 15 – Men In Black: International showing at the DeKalb Library starting at 6:30pm

October 15 – The Egyptian Theatre continues their Halloween Horror Film series with a showing of Carrie at 7pm. Tickets are $8; Students and Seniors

October 16 – Harry Potter Trivia for Adults at the DeKalb Library from 7 – 8pm. Extra points if you dress up!

October 17 – Adult Horror Movie Night at the DeKalb Library. They will show The Conjuring starting at 5pm

October 19 – DeKalb Kiwanis Club Spooktacular Pancake Breakfast at Westminster Presbyterian Church in DeKalb from 7:30 – 11:30 am

October 19 – PopCon: Outer Space at the DeKalb Library from 10 – 2pm. Celebrate space and science fiction with Star Wars, Men in Black, Wall-E, Guardians of the Galaxy, Cowboy Bebop, Mystery Science Theatre 3000, and much more.

October 19 – YMCA Halloween Bash at the Sycamore High School Field House from 4 – 8pm. Families are encouraged to wear their costumes, get active and have fun together. Tickets are $3 per person until Oct. 19 at noon. Tickets will then be available at the door for $5 per person beginning at 4:00 pm. Limited number of tickets available. Children 2 and under are free but will need a special 2 and under ticket.

October 19 – The Sycamore Park District is hosting ‘Ghost Stories at the Park‘ at the Sycamore Park District Community Center from 5 – 7:30pm. A fun, festive and even a bit frightening evening awaits. Celebrate the season with activities, demonstrations, photo booth crafts, and ghost stories!

October 20 – Free Pumpkin Distribution compliments of Dennis and Jill Jagodzinski at 10AM by the Wally Thurow Tribute Statue at the corner of Elm and Somonauk in Sycamore

October 22 – The Egyptian Theatre continues their Halloween Horror Film series with a showing of The Exorcist at 7pm. Tickets are $8; Students and Seniors are $6

October 23 – Adult Horror Movie Night at the DeKalb Library. They will show The Conjuring 2 starting at 5pm

October 23 – 27 – The historic Sycamore Pumpkin Festival takes place October 23rd-27th. The 2019 Festival Theme is: Wild West Pumpkin Fest! Check out the pumpkin decorating contest on the courthouse lawn, enjoy the arts-and-crafts shows, carnival rides, historic house walk, 10K race, parade and more!

October 23 – Kick-off Pumpkin Festival in downtown Sycamore with a Trick-or-Treating event from 4:30 – 6pm! Downtown businesses will hand out tasty treats, then make your way to the courthouse lawn for the giant cake cutting!

October 24 – Spooktacular! Trick or Treat in Downtown DeKalb from 4:30 – 6:30 pm

October 25 – Heritage Woods Boo Bash & Trick or Treating from 4 – 6 pm

October 25 – Trunk or Treat at Trinity Lutheran Church in Genoa from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Games and activities will be available in the Fellowship Hall. Chili, hot dogs, Fritos, hot chocolate and cider will be for sale. Proceeds will be given to Feed My Starving Children.

October 25 – Kishwaukee Family YMCA Spooky Pool Party from 6:30 to 9pm

October 26 – Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest at Katz Park. Bring your costumed dog to the dog park starting at 10:30am. Awards will be given for Most “Spook-tacular”, “Howling” with laughter, and Best Owner/Pet Costume Combo. Judging begins at 11:00am and winners will be announced at 11:15am.

October 26 – Hinckley’s Hometown Halloween trick-or-treat event will take place from 11 – 1 PM. Wear your costume and visit local businesses along Rt. 30 for treats!

October 26 – Sandwich Halloween Walk. Trick-Or-Treat the Downtown Sandwich Businesses from 12 – 2pm

October 26 – Halloween Happenings in Genoa. Games, Food, Prizes, Wagon Rides, a Costume Contest and so much more will be available from 2 – 4pm at Chamberlain Park

October 26 – Halloween Skate Night at the YMCA from 5 to 8pm

October 28 – Homeschool Happenings: Black Light Party at the DeKalb Library from 10 – 12pm. All are welcome to this special Halloween version of Homeschool Happenings, where they turn off the lights and go glow!  This will take place be downstairs and feature a wide variety of glowing party games, snacks, and crafts.  Costumes are welcome.

October 28 – Sycamore Pumpkin Festival Parade kicks off at 1 pm

October 29 – Toddler Trick or Treat Parade at the DeKalb Library. Young children are invited to join the library’s annual Halloween Parade through the Children’s Department, which includes a few stops at various points to “trick-or-treat.”  Come in costume and join in the fun! Parade times: 10 – 10:15 am, 10:45 – 11am

October 29 – Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s free Halloween Concerts are at 5:30pm and 7:30pm at the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall. Before the first concert, enjoy trick-or-treating in the music building starting at 5 PM.

October 29 – The Egyptian Theatre concludes their Halloween Horror Film series with a showing of Halloween at 7pm. Tickets are $8; Students and Seniors $6

October 30 – Toddler Trick or Treat Parade at the DeKalb Library. October 31 – Adult Horror Movie Night at the DeKalb Library. They will show Us starting at 5pm

October 31 – Trick or Treat at the Sycamore Park District Legacy Campus from 4-7 pm. The first 100 kids through the doors will receive a full-size candy bar. The gym will be open to play and serving hot chocolate and coffee. Movies will be show in the multipurpose room. The Northwestern Medicine Sled Hill is open! Bring your best “Sledding Costume.”
