Butler, Muhammad Earn Academic All-MAC Honors
Ethan Butler (Toronto, Ontario/Southwest Academy) and Nasir Muhammad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) of the Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team were both named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, announced by the league office.
Butler, an advocacy/public communication major with a 3.646 grade point average, appeared in 19 games for the Huskies this past season, starting all 19 contests. Butler averaged 8.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, shooting 53 percent (71-of-134) from the field. The Toronto, Ontario native scored in double figures in nine games during the 2024-25 season, including each of the first four, which included a season-high 15 points against Monmouth (Nov. 12) and Bradley (Nov. 16).
Muhammad, who has a 3.386 grade point average majoring in sociology, averaged 7.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while appearing in 24 contests, including 13 starts. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native netted a season-high 21 points twice, first at Valparaiso (Nov. 27), going 5-of-7 from three-point range, before hitting that number again at Toledo (Feb. 1) when he went 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Muhammad scored in double figures four times and made 37 triples on the season.
This season marks the second consecutive year in which the Huskies have had multiple Academic All-MAC honorees, Oluwasegun Durosinmi and Harvin Ibarguen each took home the honor a season ago.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
