Brooke Stonebraker, Jayden Marable Earn All-MAC Honors
Seniors Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) and Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) of the Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team were named to the Mid-American Conference Women’s Basketball All-MAC Teams on Tuesday as the league announced its postseason awards.
“Brooke and Jayden were thrust into new roles on this team this season and had amazing seasons,” said head coach Lisa Carlsen. “I’m glad to see my fellow head coaches give these two the recognition they deserve. Jayden is the catalyst for us both offensively and defensively. Not only does she create her own offense, but she puts her teammates in a position to succeed at that end of the floor as well. Brooke has emerged as one of the top post players in the league. Her abilities to rebound the basketball and score in the bottom half of the lane have been vital to our success this season.”
This is the third consecutive season NIU has had multiple All-MAC honorees. Stonebraker had a breakout season for the Huskies, leading the team in both scoring in rebounding to earn All-MAC Third Team honors. The senior forward averaged 11.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game with nine double-doubles after averaging 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds per game in her first three seasons. Eight of her double-doubles came in conference play, including her 18 points and 14 rebounds in NIU’s win at Western Michigan on March 9. She scored a career-high 20 points twice and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds against Western Michigan on Feb. 14. In conference games, Stonebraker led the league in rebounding at 9.6 per game.
Marable was named to the All-MAC Honorable Mention team. She nearly doubled her scoring production from a year ago, going from 6.5 points per game in the 2022-23 season to 11.4 points per game. She also set single-season career-highs with 5.1 rebounds per game and 4.1 assists per game. Marable scored a career-high 26 points in NIU’s win over Georgia Southern on Feb. 10, adding 10 rebounds and six assists. She dished out a career-high nine assists in the Huskies’ win at Buffalo on Feb. 21.
NIU takes on Kent State in the MAC Championship quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 13 at approximately 5:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and locally on WDKB 94-9 FM and the Varsity Network app.
