Applications open for Glidden Homestead volunteers and board of directors
The J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center is seeking those who may be interested in volunteering at the museum or serving on the board of directors.
The Glidden Homestead is a nonprofit museum on the site of Joseph F. Glidden’s invention of “The Winner” barbed wire, located at 921 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb, behind Glidden Florist. Applications for volunteer positions and board of director positions are open and reviewed on a rolling basis.
“We are thrilled that the Glidden Homestead has seen significant growth in its community involvement, programs, and more this year,” said Jessi Haish LaRue, Glidden Homestead executive director. “With the help of our community and incredible volunteers, we will carry that momentum and excitement into the future.”
Those who are interested should complete the brief application for either the board or volunteer role on GliddenHomestead.org or call 815-756-7904 or email jessi@gliddenhomestead.org to learn more about the roles and responsibilities.
Joseph Farwell Glidden’s invention of one of the most widely-used types of barbed wire in 1873 helped change the history of the American West and had far-reaching impact throughout the world. His Homestead is being preserved and restored by a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995. The Homestead is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Glidden’s “The Winner” barbed wire patent this year and recently celebrated with Barb City’s Barbed Wire Weekend.
