GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford is pleased to announce that Rockford radio veteran Steve Summers, Morning Host for 95.3 the Bull, has accepted an invitation to join their Board of Directors.  “Steve brings such great energy to everything he does,” stated Board President Mike Dalke.  “We are excited to have him on our team using some of that energy to make a real difference for individuals with Down syndrome and their families!”

In addition to his weekday role with 95.3, Summers also serves in several other capacities with Midwest Family Media.  He is the Brand Manager for 100 FM Rockford’s Greatest Hits and he hosts the “Top 30 Country Countdown” for 95.3 the Bull on Saturday mornings.  “Steve is quintessential Rockford,” commented Playhouse Executive Director, Karen Carlson.  “He knows this community, he cares about the people who live here, and he always has skin in the game to help make Rockford the best it can be.”

Currently serving about 375 individuals with Down syndrome across five counties, the Rockford Playhouse offers free lifetime services in the form of more than 20 on-going educational, therapeutic-based, and career-minded programs.

“A huge part of the Playhouse mission involves educating the public to build a mindset of inclusion and acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome,” Carlson continued.  “Steve has a personal connection to Down syndrome, and he understands the importance of creating opportunities to allow our participants to become their ‘Best of All.’  The way the world views Down syndrome is slowly changing for the better… and adding Steve to our Board is one more step in the right direction.”

Steve is excited about his new role and had this to say about working with Gigi’s Playhouse:

“A huge part of the Playhouse mission involves educating the public to build a mindset of inclusion and acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome,”
I have a personal connection to Down syndrome, and I understand the importance of educating, including everyone and letting anyone be the best that they can be. The way the world views Down Syndrome is slowly changing for the better…and I am honored to be able to help in a small way thru Gigi’s Playhouse Rockford.”
